Ecochlor to provide BWTS solutions for 55 Scorpio product carriers
US-based Ecochlor has secured a contract from Scorpio Tankers to supply its ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) for 55 product carriers.
As part of the deal, the systems will be retrofitted on the Ecochlor product carriers that range between 38,000dwt to more than 100,000dwt.
The retrofitting is scheduled to start in the last quarter of this year and end by 2022.
Scorpio Tankers chairman and CEO Emanuele Lauro said: “Reliability and quality were primary considerations for us, given our commitment to safeguard the environment and complying with the complex regulatory guidelines for ballast water treatment.”
With a fleet of 109 owned and leased product tankers, Scorpio Tankers primarily provides marine transportation solutions for petroleum products across the globe.
The company’s current portfolio of vessels includes 38 LR2, 12 LR1, 45 MR and 14 Handymax tankers.
“The superior efficacy of our treatment system and lifetime commitment to servicing their vessels will guarantee compliance for their fleet worldwide.”
Ecochlor CEO Steve Candito said: “Scorpio Tankers has a reputation of being a leading owner and operator in the tanker industry.
“Their commitment to excellence along with the superior efficacy of our treatment system and lifetime commitment to servicing their vessels will guarantee compliance for their fleet worldwide.”
Scorpio Tankers has also entered a deal to become a minority investor in Ecochlor.
In May, Ecochlor was selected by Greek company Angelicoussis Shipping Group (ASGL) to retrofit 36 vessels with its BWTS solutions.
The vessels included Suezmaxes, Aframaxes, and very large crude carriers (VLCCs).
